To the Bonsall School Community,

During tough times it’s great to get good news, and once again wonderful events

have occurred to show what an outstanding community Bonsall is. Julie Koleazar, of

the Bonsall Education Foundation, organized an incredibly outstanding event that

brought over 400 people to Sullivan Middle School last Saturday, March 6, for one of

the strongest examples of community support for public education I have ever seen.

I called it the Middle School Makeover. Julie arranged to have hundreds of people

connect with Disneyland for their ”Give a Day, Get a Day” program where

participants can earn a free ticket to Disneyland by giving a day of community

service. With contributions from many local businesses of materials, advisory staff,

tools, equipment, and enthusiasm, hundreds of people pitched in to plant flowers

and trees, spread mulch, weed, clean buildings, trim trees, and then clean it all up.

Such hard working community spirit was an amazing site to behold. It was aweinspiring

to see so many families working together; parents modeling for their

children the intrinsic benefit of hard working community service, and support for

public education. For those children it will be one of the best lessons they will ever

learn. As can be seen from the picture below, it would be too long a list here to

thank all those who deserve our gratitude; we will be thanking them officially at the

March 11, Board Meeting.
