Preschool Buddy Class

Mon.-Thurs., 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.

The Bonsall Elementary Preschool Buddy Class serves both children with disabilities and typically developing children, ages 3-5. The focus of the class is on helping children develop in their own unique style by using developmentally appropriate activities to prepare children for the academic focus they will need when they start Kindergarten. Cognitive learning activities teach children how to think, predict, analyze, and generalize from one skill area to another. Language activities teach them to listen and learn from language, to use language to express themselves, and to use language to reason and to think through a puzzle or problem. Motor activities focus on development of both gross and fine motor skills to prepare them for the writing and mobility they will need in school and in life. Play skills and social skills teach them how to interact with others in an appropriate and productive way, how to build and maintain friendships, and how to get along with others. Emotional skills teach children how to identify, channel, defuse, and understand their emotions and their reactions to other people and to things that happen in their world.
